    #AccelerateAction: Women Moving the Dial

    Wednesday, March 5, 6 p.m. EST

The Loft (18 Tank House Lane, Toronto, ON M5A 3C4)

    CPD Pending

For International Women’s Day 2025, the CAN-TECH Women in Technology Committee will be hosting four extraordinary women who will share their stories about impact, from advancing women in leadership roles to leading women-focused initiatives and championing change in technology and beyond.

Through engaging discussions and personal insights, this event will explore how these changemakers have accelerated action and paved the way for a more inclusive and equitable future. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” challenges us all to move beyond conversations and into meaningful progress. Whether through innovative projects, mentorship, or breaking traditional barriers, our speakers have exemplified the power of decisive action.

Rather than sitting in the audience and taking notes, we will have a cocktail mix-and-mingle, followed by a fireside chat with our speakers, and then a dinner with one of our speakers at each table. Come and connect with like-minded professionals, hear from trailblazing leaders, and leave inspired to take your own steps to move the dial.

Deborah Rosati, an award-winning entrepreneur and corporate director, has been defined in three interconnected ways throughout her 35-year career: as a champion of corporate governance, a catalyst for change, and a community builder.

As the founder and CEO of Women Get On Board Inc. (WGOB), over 1000 member social-purpose company, Deborah is building a community of the next generation of women corporate directors. WGOB amplifies the voices of women leaders, board members and professionals across Canada through education, mentorship and allyship. It’s been called The Power of Three – one woman in the boardroom is a token, two is a presence, and three is a voice.

Deborah is a leading and serving corporate director, currently chairing the board of Profound Impact Corporation and has chaired many public company audit committees and nominating & corporate governance committees. In addition, Deborah has led and served on numerous special committees with various mandates (including going public, going private, M&A, restructuring and special investigations).

Deborah’s passion for good governance and board diversity is rooted in her board journey when she was often the only woman in the boardroom. These first-hand experiences cemented Deborah’s conviction that having more women on boards makes better business sense.

Never satisfied with the status quo, Deborah always seeks ways to challenge expectations and drive change. She brings an environmental, social and governance (ESG) lens to every board she serves on, as she believes in the power and responsibility of business to change our world for the better.

RECORDING: CAN-TECH 2024 Spring Conference: Peeling Back to Basics: Technology Contracts

The CAN-TECH Spring Conference is back and, following last year's success, will focus on discussing practical tips and tricks for junior to mid level technology lawyers to apply in their practices. The event was held from coast-to-coast – starting in Vancouver and ending in Halifax – with five offices (Vancouver, Regina, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax) each hosting one live panel and participating in the other panels via Zoom. The one-day, pan-canadian program, with hybrid in-person and webcast sessions, will see panels across five satellite locations discuss a range of topics, including drafting and negotiating strategies and pitfalls to look out for in technology contracts.

The hope was that the attendees would leave the conference feeling more confident and comfortable in their understanding of technology transactions, the contracts, and the issues that often come up in them. Based on the expertise the panelists shared, and the accompanying materials, mission accomplished.

    Spring Conference Co-chairs:

Justine Gauthier, General Counsel & Head of AI Governance, Mila

Justine Gauthier is the General Counsel & Head of AI Governance of Mila, a prominent artificial intelligence research institute at the intersection of industry, academia and government, where she also acts as Privacy Officer and Corporate Secretary. CPD - This program is eligible for up to 5 Substantive Hours

    Vancouver: Service levels, service credits

An intriguing discussion on the topic of service levels, why they are important and how they can be drafted to provide protection to both buyers and sellers will leave you with practical tips to implement in your daily practices. Junior and mid-level associates are often tasked with reviewing service levels in technology contracts and we want to ensure you are equipped with the knowledge required to understand the drafting nuisances of service levels and how one or two simple words (e.g. exclusive remedy) can change the trajectory of contract negotiations. We will also discuss other relevant topics such reporting on and tracking service levels.
